The treatments of asthma are designed to relieve the things that cause asthma-inflammation, hyperreactivity, and bronchoconstriction. One type of asthma medication is called controllers, designed to be used every day to help prevent symptoms. These include inhaled steroids, long acting beta agonists, and leukotriene modifiers. The other major type of asthma medications are called rescue medication and are used to help relieve symptoms now. Medication can be given by inhaler, nebulizer, or orally.
