Engagement Details


In this engagement, participants will develop an understanding of the communication skills required to establish and maintain effective dialogue with their child’s teacher and school even in the event of disagreement or disconnection.

Learning Objectives

  1. To respond appropriately when contacted by your child’s school.
  2. To maintain, if not strengthen, the home-school partnership throughout dialogue related to a concern or disconnect.

About the Authors

Jamie Bricker

Jamie Bricker

Jamie Bricker is a retired elementary school educator from just outside Toronto, Ontario. His thirty year career encompassed teaching all grades from 1 to 8, as well as over a decade in school administration.

Carol Bricker

Carol Bricker

Carol Bricker is also a retired elementary school educator. During her thirty year career, she assumed various of roles in Special Education: Classroom Teacher, Special Education Resource Teacher and Special Education Facilitator.

As both parents and educators, Jamie and Carol have seen the tremendous impact committed parent engagement has on a child’s enjoyment of school and his/her academic success. In addition to their work for Teacher/Coach, Jamie and Carol co-host a twice monthly podcast about Parent Engagement on VoicEd Radio.
