Summary

Bullying is part of a larger category of school violence. Understanding how bullying is similar to and different from other types of violence, how to define it, and how pervasive are all focused on. If schools aren't safe, then learning can not happen to it's fullest potential. Take this course as part of a series on violence to stop problems before they corrupt the classroom and school environment.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define bullying in relation to other types of school violence.
  2. Differentiate between commonly used terms such as climate, culture, and environment.
  3. Explore the impact of bullying on the child and school culture.
  4. Begin to define action steps toward being proactive in developing a safe climate.

About the Author

Jared Scherz, Ph.D., M.Ed., ACS

Dr. Scherz is a clinical psychologist, author, and educational consultant, working with educators for over twenty years. He earned his Master's in Education from Penn State University and went on to be an elementary school guidance counselor before earning his Ph.D.

As educators are more likely to invest their personal time, money, and energy into their work, support both inside the classroom is required.
